How trucking companies are negligent

| Oct 7, 2020 | Truck accidents

When you find yourself driving in close proximity to commercial trucks, you take specific steps to enhance your safety with the hope of preventing an accident.

However, there’s something you may be forgetting: Trucking companies can be just as negligent as a truck driver.

Here are some of the many ways trucking companies are negligent:

  • Lack of training: It goes without saying that there’s nothing simple about operating a commercial truck. This isn’t a job that just anyone can do. It takes detailed and comprehensive training to ensure that a person is ready to operate one of these vehicles. If a trucking company neglects to provide such training, it puts both the driver and everyone else on the road at risk.
  • Improper vehicle maintenance: Commercial trucks require regular maintenance. Without this, there’s a better chance that something could go wrong on the road, such as a tire blowout.
  • Improper loading: Do you ever stop and wonder what’s in the back of those big commercial trucks you see on the highway? In many cases, they’re loaded with everything from groceries to construction equipment. Improper loading can cause an accident, such as if there’s too much weight on one side of the truck.

Trucking companies often make one or more of these mistakes because they’re in a hurry to get their drivers on the road. They assume they don’t have enough time for proper training, proper loading and vehicle maintenance. All they care about is getting their loads from point A to point B as quickly as possible.

If you’re injured in a car-truck accident, the first thing you should do is seek medical treatment. The sooner you do this, the better chance you have of stabilizing your condition and positioning yourself to make a full recovery.

Once your health is in order, it’s time to learn more about the cause of the accident. This is when you’ll dig deeper to find out who was at-fault. You may come to realize that the trucking company, just as much as the driver, acted in a negligent manner. This knowledge makes it easier for you to take action and protect your legal rights.
